The Beaufort Yale — one of the Queen's beasts that guarded the entrance to Westminster Abbey during Her Majesty's coronation in 1953. This six-foot statue represented history and heritage, and afterwards its image appeared on one of the coins of the «Beasts of the Queen» series.
Description
The coin weighs 1/4 troy ounce (7.78 g) and is made of the purest gold. The obverse of the coin depicts the Queen of Great Britain — Elizabeth the Second with a crown on her head. Around the portrait is an inscription denoting the monarch and the face value of the coin. The reverse of the gold coin depicts the mythical beast Yale, as well as the metal, weight, gold purity and year of issue of the coin.
